Located in the mexican state of Baja California, just to cross the U.S – Mexican border from San Diego.
The happiest place on earth… Tijuana!
Are you a San Diegan who’s curious about crossing the border into Tijuana to experience tequila, tacos, and fun? Well, you’ll want to read this before you go.
Reason no.5
– La Revu –
After crossing the border, most visitors head to Avenida Revolución also known as La Revu.
This main street is geared towards entertaining tourist with shopping, restaurants, partying and much more.
It’s definitely worth feeling the energy of this famous avenue.
You can bargain with shopkeepers and find good deals on local trinkets.
The restaurants can be fun and they’re a lot of culinary hidden treasures
You must try: La Justina – GastroBar –
Reason no.4
– La Sexta –
You will love La Sexta!
And that’s doubly true if you’re a hipster. El Tinieblo, Moustache Bar, and La Mezcalera are all great options. La Mezcalera has 15 or more styles of mezcal, most of it flavored with fruits like passion fruit or stuff like caramel, which is really good on the rocks
You can actually see “La Sexta in 30 photos” in this post.
Reason no.3
– The most amazing picture in the world –
You can get a photo taken with a Zonkey! (i mean… a donkey painted like a zebra) Isn’t cool? #TijuanaMakesMeHappy
Getting your photo taken atop a “Zonkey” is a 100-year-old Tijuana tradition. Seriously, the first photo of a tourist on a “zebra” is from 1914.
I was hanging around in Tijuana hunting for some souvenir, and caught by this cutest creature in the world: a Zebra-Donkey, the “Zonkey”!

Reason no.2
– Tijuana’s beer scene is blowing up –
Baja California is home to 80 craft brewers, and some 45 of them are located in Tijuana.
Two Tijuana beer scenes are on the rise: Zona Centro (the Downtown area, along and just off Avenida Revolucion) where you’ll find Norte Brewing Co, Baja Brew Labs, Azteca Craft Brewing, and Mamut’s original location.
Then there are a dozen or so tasting rooms in Plaza Fiesta on Paseo de los Heroes in Zona Rio (Insurgente, Border Psycho, Silenus, Lúdica, Mamut, and Fauna, among others). Most are open Tuesdays through Saturdays, and a select few on Sundays.

Reason no.1
– Tacos –
Everyone has their favorite, and everyone claims theirs is the best. For seafood tacos, try Machatlan on Ocampo and Third. Land animal-wise, go for Las 3 salsas in Las Ahumaderas (aka Taco Alley), which got a nod in Anthony Bourdain’s No Reservations.
Come and enjoy Tijuana!
